Mountain West Conference Standings
Well a very crazy week for the Mountain West in football, basketball and other news. First off there could be another addition to the roster as Hawaii may become the latest member of the Mountain West. The Warriors would join as football members only in 2012 which is the ideal situation for bringing them on board.
Hoops got started off with some big wins this week and Colorado State fans are calling for the head of football Coach Steve Fairchild.
Air Force: The Falcons beat UNLV on Thursday to finish the season 8-4. No one was really paying attention to the game because of the news out Hawaii was breaking at the same time. Forget about football because the basketball program just hit a new low this week. The Falcons hosted Colorado College a Division III team and lost in overtime. Nothing like letting some kids with no athletic scholarships woop up on you in front of your home crowd.
BYU: Well the Cougars have completed a nice come back here and are now 6-5 and will be going bowling again this year. I don't care what Cougar fans say - you are going to the New Mexico Bowl. Utah will be picked ahead of you and the Armed Forces Bowl will choose Army instead of a Mountain West team.
Colorado State: Thank you for making so many Wyoming fans so very happy. The off season should be much more enjoyable now. It will be a rough one for the Rams after the 44-0 shutout at the Border War. At least you still have Volleyball. And you don't have the Boot.
New Mexico: The end is almost near for the Lobos football team. Too bad everyone will be watching them get demolished by TCU on Versus. Is there really any chance that Locksley keeps his job after the season is done? Only if the school can't afford to fire him. To make matters worse the basketball team got schooled by Cal 89-64.
San Diego State: Another close game here for the Aztecs. They had Utah on the ropes and let them go. Ryan Lindley threw for 528 yards and four touchdowns but was intercepted three times. The Utes put up 14 unanswered to win 38-34. In hoops news the Aztecs knocked off Gonzaga on Tuesday night and have now earned a top 25 ranking.
TCU: Gary Patterson spent the weekend shaking hands and kissing babies on ESPN and College Game Day. Now just a final disgorging of New Mexico and then the bowl game waiting game starts. Horned Frogs are well deserving of a BCS bid but will they actually get one?
UNLV: Well the Rebels got a nice win over Wisconsin on the home court on Saturday. Fans couldn't wait for hoop season to start. Unfortunately there are still weeks of football left for the Rebels and it looks like they will both be losses ie: San Diego State and Hawaii.
Utah: If the Utes had lost three in a row distraught fans would be guzzling down watered down beer to drown their sorrows. Luckily a fourth quarter comeback was just enough to get past the Aztecs. Utah is barely holding onto their top 25 ranking now. Will this be the last time ever that the Holy War is played as the last game of the year? Has to be scheduled earlier now that Utah is moving to the PAC 12.
Wyoming: Feeling pretty frickin' fantastic. That sums it all up. Let's not talk about basketball right now. It's all about the Bronze Boot.
Future Members of the Mountain West
Boise State: One of the most dominant defensive performances in the history of Friday night football on ESPN. The Broncos got started slowly but once the bus was moving it couldn't be stopped. Craig James is still stupid and not impressed by a 51-0 victory.
Fresno State: At least Pat Hill knows when he is wooped. After the loss to Boise State he took the lead job as Boise State lobbyist. Maybe the Bulldogs just couldn't handle the wind, rain and the cold. If Fresno beats Idaho next weekend the Vandals won't be returning to a bowl game this season.
Hawaii: Very excited to have you on board as a future member. Now things are still getting worked out but I went ahead and added you to the list here. There have been some great games between Hawaii and Wyoming in the past, hopefully there will be several more.
Nevada: The Wolf Pack will have a ton of TCU fans on their side this week. Another Friday night event that features two teams with 10 wins. This game is Reno but how much of the crowd will be Boise fans? Colin Kaepernick set some kind of record this past weekend, I think he does that in every game he plays.
