Wyoming Whips Western State

Laramie, WY – The Wyoming Cowboys (5-6) have won two straight games after whipping Western State (1-8), 80-37 Friday night at the Arena Auditorium.

With four players in double figures the Cowboys, Wyoming took an early 10-0 and never looked back giving The Pokes a two game winning streak.

The Cowboys shot 46% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc and leading the way was Djibril Thiam scored 17 while Francisco Cruz chipped in 16 shooting 4-5 from 3-point land, Cruz also pulled down 4 rebounds and had 7 assist.

Wyoming led at the half 36-10.

Not letting up in the second half Wyoming kept the pressure on and they kept extending the lead. In the end two other players were in double figure in addition to Thiam and Cruz.

Amath M’Baye scored 15 while Desmar Jackson added another 13. Brain Gibson pulled down 9 rebounds for The Pokes before fouling out. Wyoming out rebounded the Mountaineers 48-33.

Leading the Mountaineers in scoring was Casey Jackson with 12 points and he pulled down 4 boards.

The win pushed The Pokes 2010 home record to 5-1.

The Cowboys will be back in action Monday night when they will look for their third straight win against Centenary. Monday’s game will be the third of five straight home games for Wyoming.
