This little nugget came from Robert Gagliardi:
Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen wants to add size to a number of players at different positions, so starting in January all scholarship players will be required to attend a breakfast training table Monday-Friday from 7:15-9 a.m.
The goal is have players consume between 2,500-3,000 calories before lunch.
"We’re not going to be able to recruit the finished product here," he said. "We have to recruit athleticism and project, and then build them when they get here. We have some great linemen, but they’re 275 or 280, and we need them up to 290 or 300. Same with our defensive line, and all positions."
That is a ton of food to ingest early in the morning. I've always had a hard time eating a ton in the morning. So what would 3,000 calories look like if eaten for breakfast?
All calorie counts come from infoplease.
- Ham and Cheese Omelet (3 eggs) - 510 calories
- Belgian waffle with fruit and whip cream - 900 calories
- French Toast (3 slices) with 1/4 cup of syrup - 800 calories
- Pancakes (4) with 1/4 cup of syrup - 870 calories
- Total = 3080 calories
That is quite the way to start the day. I'd imagine some pretty large lunch and dinners would follow as well. Adding some size to both lines is key to improving on the Pokes 3-9 record. Size wise they basically started four defensive ends all year.
