Mountain West Monday: Another Awful Weekend Of Football

Mountain West Conference Standings

(updated 10.8.2011 at 11:01 PM PDT)

ConfOverall
WLWL
TCU Horned Frogs 2 0 4 2
Colorado St. Rams 1 0 3 2
Boise St. Broncos 0 0 5 0
Wyoming Cowboys 0 0 3 2
UNLV Rebels 0 0 1 4
Air Force Falcons 0 1 3 2
San Diego St. Aztecs 0 1 3 2
New Mexico Lobos 0 1 0 5

The hits just keep coming here for the Mountain West.  Winning the out of conference portion of the schedule is starting to be a lot harder then it used to be.  When two teams give up 42 points in the first half you know there are going to be some problems.  For the last three weeks I've been writing about how this was a terrible week for the Mountain West, wish I could change that headline but I can't.

Air Force:  Rough weekend for the Falcons in South Bend.   Notre Dame actually looked like a good team as they jumped out to a 42-16 lead at the half.  Things didn't improve as the final score ended up 59-33.  Now the Falcons are looking to jump ship to the Big East.  They need to stay away from that train wreck of a conference.

Boise State:  Thank goodness Boise took care of business otherwise the Mountain West would really be in trouble.  A 57-7 road victory over Fresno State is the norm here in the Kellen Moore era.  Now the Broncos travel to Colorado State and get to wear their home uniforms on the road because CSU wants to confuse the hell out of their fans.

Star-divide

San Diego State:  Ryan Lindley is watching his draft status drop and meanwhile Ronnie Hillman was benched for the second half.  What is happening in San Diego?   That loss to Michigan really messed up the Aztec mojo.   Now they will need to defeat Air Force on the road to avoid dropping three straight and end up at .500.

TCU:  Bit of a bounce back for the Horned Frogs as they beat San Diego State on the road.  Now they enjoy a bye week before their destruction of New Mexico.  Now they've ditched the Big East before they ever officially joined and will become members of the Big 12 where they should have been all along.  Finally a confernce realignment move that actually makes sense.

UNLV:  The only team that had a worse weekend then Wyoming was UNLV.  Not only were they shutout by their in-state rival Nevada the Rebels only managed 110 yards total.  Caleb Herring completed only pass the entire game and now he has been benched for Sean Reilly

Wyoming:  Let's just not talk about it.

Future Mountain West Team Quick Hits

Fresno:  Pat Hill may not be the man in Fresno any longer if he keeps this up.

Nevada:  37-0 over your rival.  That is a good weekend.

Ugh :-(

Terrible, terrible, terrible.

TCU/SD – This is like splitting the popular vote & losing. SD State had a good chance to break the Top 25 with a run, after TCU tripped & fell on their run. Now neither has a chance to get back in it.
AF – I was hoping for so much more (win), but at least keep it close.
UNLV – No excuses, but you were probably a victim of a team out to prove something after losing so badly to Boise State.
Wyoming – I puke everytime I think about what happened to you. Utah State???

I will go on record: MWC is not greater than WAC. Identical twin sisters. I was hoping for so much more.
