Cowboy Joe: The Pokes needed a big game from Brett Smith and boy did he deliver. He is on a record setting pace after two quarters and ended up with a career high 341 yards passing. He either threw or ran for every touchdown the Cowboys scored in the game. This was certainly his biggest performance of the season.
Honorable Mention: Abel Perez is the kicker for San Diego State but he must have been a Cowboy in a previous lifetime. Two missed field goals and an extra point kept the Aztecs from taking the lead in this game.
Cowboy Foe: If you thought it would anyone else beside Ronnie Hillman then you are a fool. He was certainly the most consistent player for either team for the entire game. Caught a big touchdown pass in the first quarter and then had a school record 99 yards touchdown run. He certainly showed why he is one of the best in the nation.
Cowboy Low: Second half offense. After a spectacular first half the Pokes could barely move the ball. The one drive they move into field goal range was ruined by sacks and penalties. Obviously it would be nearly improssible to repeat the output for the first half but one score would have been helpful.
