There was more recruiting news last week but this one slipped through the cracks as we were preparing for the New Mexico Bowl. It certainly has been a productive December for Wyoming recruiting wise after this latest commitment.
To add more depth on the defensive line the Pokes DE Justin Bernthaler out of Fullerton CC in California. He is a junior college player with two years of eligbility. Bernthaler is originaly from Stuttgart, Germany and extends the tradition of Wyoming recruiting German players. Wyoming has three current members on the team from Germany and now two in this recruiting class.
Bernthaler wears #94 and plays weakside (right) defensive end. Listed at 6-3 240lb he isn't a huge linemen but certainly looks skilled. This year he had 43 tackles, eight sacks, two hurries and two forced fumbles. Rivals rates him as Three Stars with a 5.5 overall rating. That would make him the second highest rated Wyoming commit behind WR Trent Sewell.
Wyoming is losing Josh Biezuns and Gabe Knapton at defensive end but there is plenty of talented youth ready to take over next year. Interesting that they went with a junior college player at defensive end. Wyoming now has 11 commitments on this year. There is currently a dead period for recruiting over the the holidays so recruiting news will be slower for a couple weeks.
