Now that the Schroyer era is officially done it's for the search for a new coach to begin. Fred Langley will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season. No word on whether or not he will have a shot at opening based on his performance.
AD Burman has stated that they will hire a search firm and to expect a lengthy researching and interview process. They will have at least a month of the season to get the process started and narrow down the list candidates. There are a number of ways that Wyoming could go with this hire. When they hired Coach Christensen to replace Joe Glenn the went with a highly regarded Assistant coach that was ready to cut his teeth. Do they go that same route or get someone with more experience as a Head Coach?
Eric Schmoldt has a list of more popular candidates that people are familiar with: Larry Shyatt, - Florida Assistant, David Rice - BYU Assistant, Johnny Jones - North Texas Head Coach, Fred Langley - Interim and Jeremy Cox - South Florida Assistant. Of this group that is listed I have to say Johnny Jones is the one who interests me the most here. He has done a lot with the program and done a very solid job of recruiting.
For a more far reaching list check out who Zach Creglow came up with: Cuonzo Martin -
Head Coach Missouri State, Jack Owens - Assistant Purdue, Ben Jacobson - Head Coach Northern Iowa, Jerrance Howard - Assistant Coach - Illinois.
I honestly think it would be hard to grab Martin or Jacobson from those MVC schools. Those are both big time hoops schools and they are the big attraction on campus. Not sure if there would be a huge incentive for them to come to Wyoming unless it included a nice pay day.
