Cougars too Much for Cowboys in Provo

Provo, UT – A 64 point second half by the No. 3 team in the nation was too much for a young Wyoming Cowboys to overcome as the Cougars defeated the Cowboys Saturday 102-78. The loss dropped the Cowboys to 10-20 overall on the season and 3-11 in the MWC while BYU improved to 28-3 overall and 14-2 in the MWC.

The nation’s leading scorer Jimmer Fredette scored 38 points in the win while teammate Charles Abouo added 25, 21 of those were scored in that monster second half.

The Pokes played the Cougars tough in the first half behind 13 points from Francisco Cruz in the first half and 18 for the game for Cruz Wyoming went into the locker room at the half down by just three 38-35.

Abouo went on an 8-0 run himself  early in the second half and that was too much for the Cowboys to overcome.

Daylen Harrison and Amath M'Baye had 12 points apiece for the Cowboys while Jackson Emery added 18 for BYU.

Both Wyoming and BYU will play next week in the MWC Tournament. Wyoming will play in the play in game as the 8th seed against TCU while BYU will enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed and looking for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament that kicks off in a couple of weeks.
