Awards, Drive Chart And Highlights From Weber State Game

Animated Drive Chart brought to you by Gameday Depot.

College football is back in our lives and Wyoming is 1-0. Overall I'd say it was a good weekend.  Time to hand out some hardware from the Pokes 35-32 victory over Weber State.  We do this after every game and feel to free to nominate others by posting in the comments.  Here is a quick refresher on how it works:

Cowboy Joe = Best Wyoming player/unit/coach in the game overall or one that stepped up and made a big impact on the game.

Cowboy Low = Wyoming/unit/coach who didn't perform up to the level they were expected.

Cowboy Foe = Player from the opposition that had the best performance.

And the winners are.....

Cowboy Joe - I don't think this could go any one else except Brett Smith.  The young QB took his lumps early and then put the team on his back and made sure they got the victory.  294 yards passing, 3 touchdowns in the air and one on the ground is a fantastic debut.  Hard to ask for anything more from a true freshmen making his collegiate debut.

Honorable Mention:  WR Robert Herron looked great after moving to WR this year, he finished with seven catches for 104 yard and two touchdowns including the game winner.

Cowboy Low:  The defense struggled as a whole for most of the game.  Hard to pick out a certain unit that struggled the most so we'll go with defensive coordinator Marty English.  Allowing 541 yards to any school, let alone a FCS school is a big warning sign.  English needs to get some problems fixed over the next five days.

Cowboy Foe:  QB Mike Hoke hurt the Pokes with his arm and his feet.  He was 19 of 28 for 314 yards and two touchdowns.  He was also the second leading rusher for the Wildcats with 74 yards.  Nearly 400 total yards for the junior who finally got his first start.

After the jump we have video highlights of the game.  Great way to see some of the big plays if you weren't at the game.

No excuse for the defense

and I’m sure once Smith settles in and gets the timing down more, we’ll see less of the over/under throws that we saw in the first half.
