The 2011 basketball recruiting class was just wrapped up a few weeks ago and now Larry Shyatt is working right away on building his 2012 class.
Over the Labor Day weekend the basketball staff was busy hosting five recruits taking official visits. The group included SF/PF Eric McCree (Ocoee HS - West Orange, FL), F/C Austin Halderson (Highlands Ranch HS - Highlands Ranch, CO), F Stephon Blair (Dilliard HS - Fort Lauderdale, FL), SG Jason McManamen (Torrington HS - Torrington, WY) and PG Josh Adams (Chaparral HS - Denver, CO).
By Sunday McManamen and Adams had both verbally committed to Wyoming. Eric McCree had orignally planned on announcing his college choice on Labor Day. However he announced via his twitter account that he needs some more time before making a decision. Freshmen Larry Nance Jr. hosted the recruits and has done a great job in helping sell the program. He also helped recruit SG Shakir Smith in August when he visited.
Locals are always excited to have a Wyoming player on the roster and at 6-6 McManamen also provides some nice size as a two guard. He posted averages of 16 points and 3 rebounds last year. Adams is 6'1 PG that is very athletic, as a junior he averaged 16 points, 2.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds. With both guards spots locked down the focus will be on solidifying the front court with the remaining three scholarships.
The basketball team now leads the football team in 2012 commitments two to one. Great to see athletes wanting to play for Wyoming so early in the recruiting period. Shyatt and company are killing it right now.
Here is a great highlight clip of Adams from his junior season. Looks like a tenacious defender with some major hops.
There wasn't a full highlight video of McManamen just several clips of individual plays. Here is a buzzer beat that is nearly identical to the one put up by Paco Cruz last season to beat New Mexico.
