We are exactly three weeks from national signing day which is very similar to Christmas for recruiting addicts. It took awhile for this Wyoming recruiting class to be put together but there was plenty of momentum gained in November and December with several commitments. Over the holidays there is a dead period in recruiting but that has now passed. With just 21 days left the Cowboy staff will be busy talking with recruits and hosting official visits.
Let's take a look at the recruiting class as it currently stands with nine current members.
SIGNED - ENROLLED IN JANUARY
|Eric Nzeocha||WR||6-1||200||Neusitz, Germany||N/A|
|Connor Rains||OL||6-6||310||American River CC||N/A|
|Tim Gleeson||P||6-2||195||ProKick, Australia||N/A|
These three are the first official members of the recruiting class, have signed their letter of intent, and are in class. Don't be overly concerned that Rivals hasn't rated these recruits yet. Two of them played overseas and they will likely receive two star ratings which is the norm for international players.
These next six athletes are are verbal commitments and will be able to sign on February 1st.
|Chase Appleby||DT||6-1||270||Centenntial HS (Frisco, TX)||Two Stars -5.4|
|Justin Bernthaler||DE||6-3||240||Fullerton CC (Fullerton, CA)||Three Stars -5.5|
|Jacob English||OL||6-6||240||Beloit HS (Beloit, KS)||Two Stars
|Walker Madden||OL||6-8||270||College of the Desert (Palm Desert, CA)||N/A|
|Trent Sewell||WR||6-2||205||Bothell HS (Bothell, WA)||Three Stars - 5.7|
|Lucas Wacha||OLB||6-0||180||Pleasent Grove HS (Texarkana, TX)||65 (ESPN)|
Wyoming is likely to sign 22 to 23 athletes this class. After the jump I put together a wishlist of sorts for those remaining scholarships.
To be realistic I included on recruits that Wyoming had already offered. I'm not putting anyone out here that doesn't have a realistic shot of committing to Wyoming.
With the loss of Pittser the Cowboys need to bring in at least one quarterback to add some more depth. Wyoming has some interest in couple kids from Colorado but haven't offered yet.
There are offers out to two running backs so far and Jordan Roberts from Sheridan is visiting Laramie in two weeks. I don't have a horse in this race, just want Wyoming to sign the best player possible. Hard to say with one that is right now.
The depth at receiver certainly a took a hit on Monday with the loss of Josh Doctson, Kevin Robertson and C.J. Morgan. Plus Jonathan Aiken having to leave the team due to grades. It will be important for the Pokes to add some additional receivers in this class to go along with Sewell and Nzeocha.
Ross Stribling from Dorsey HS in LA is 6-4 190lbs and very high on my list. He attends the same school as current Cowboy WR Robert Herron.
While one commit at defensive tackle is great, there is still a need to add more depth at that position.
Uso Olive (6'1 293lbs) from Federal Way HS in Federal Way, WA is that big defensive tackle the Pokes need.
DE Will Hopkins from Bowie, TX is down to Air Force and Wyoming. I like his length and size at 6-7 230lbs.
At linebacker Wyoming is need of a middle linebacker and for Washington State Commit Jordan Pulu fits the bill. The hard hitting Pulu is 6-3 235lbs and also from Federal Way HS (Federal Way, WA).
Jayshawn Jordan from O'Dea HS in Seattle is good friends with Trent Sewell and another big talent from the Pacific Northwest. He is set to visit at the end of January.
The final member of the the wishlist is also one of the newest recruits to land an offer from Wyoming. Safety Ma'ne Manaea was originally committed to Colorado but has opened things up after they asked to him greyshirt. He would be a great addition at safety.
Again all of these picks are just my personal opinion. These six athletes all stood out to me and I think they would be great additions to the Cowboys. There are still 13 or 14 open spots left in the recruiting class so there will be plenty of recruiting news happening over the next three weeks as we build up closer to signing day.
