QB Jason Thompson (Kennedy HS, WA) Switches From Washington To Wyoming

The continued recruiting of Washington State has paid off again for the Cowboys. This news comes from Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

While the Huskies were gaining a kicker last night they were reportedly losing a legacy recruit.

Dawgman had the details on the news that Jason Thompson, a Kennedy High senior and the brother of Everrette Thompson, has decommitted and will instead sign with Wyoming, where he can play quarterback. Washington had recruited Thompson with the idea he would play safety. But he said Wyoming offered him as a QB this week and he decided to pursue his dream of playing quarterback at the next level.

Obviously you can tell that Thompson is very serious about playing QB in college and not moving to defense. He is giving up the opportunity to play with his brother at a PAC 12 school. He chose UW over UW. Bad pun intended. Thompson is a 6-3 195lbs dual threat QB with a two star rating from Rivals.

With the loss of Adam Pittser the Cowboys certainly needed to add at least one quarterback in this class. They may have another addition as well.

The Cowboys recently offered QB Tommy Thornton from Marcos De Niza Hs in Tempe, AZ. According to Scout he is set to visit Laramie this weekend. Thornton is listed as 6-2 205lbs with an offer from Bemidji State. He certainly appears to be an athlete that has been running under the radar of a lot of schools. He attended the Wyoming Brown and Gold camp this summer so he is familiar with the coaching staff. Thornton actually lived in Colorado and started started two years at Parker HS. With the downturn in the economy his family was forced to sell their home in Colorado and move to their family residence in Arizona. So he is basically a Colorado recruit from Arizona.

Rivals has him listed as prostyle quarterback but after watching his highlight tape he is certainly a dual threat. No word yet if the commitment from Thompson takes the spot that Thornton was offered. His tape does remind me a bit of Brett Smith, he looks like a gamer who is underrecruited. He looks good on his short and intermediate passes in the highlights. I like the normal uniforms for his school, the camo look is interesting.

Also Dawson Housley a LB from Eugene, OR has decided to walkon at Oregon instead of accept a full ride at Wyoming. The Cowboys are back at 19 commitments with the addition of Jason Thompson.

Here is a 2011 video of Thornton.
