Exclusive: Wyoming Offers RB Dre Holman - Putnam City North HS (OK)

Wyoming has certainly stepped up their interest in high school running backs lately. The latest offer goes out to Dre Holman out of Putnam City North HS in Oklahoma City. Holman is 5'8 190lbs and a very strong and powerful runner. I spoke with his high school coach Bob Wilson today who confirmed that Wyoming had offered Holman.

Coach Wilson described Holman as "a workhouse of a running back and one of the best in the state of Oklahoma. "

The only video footage available is from his 2009 sophomore season. He's dealt with some injuries over the last couple years but nothing major. He was healthy this year and carried for over 1500 yards. He is also able to handle a huge workload. This year he had 42 carries in one game including 13 in a row. You don't see a lot of athletes on any level that can handle that many carries.

Based on this footage it looks like Holman is a well built and powerful runner but not a burner. At a Nike combine this summer his 40 time was measured as 4.88 which is certainly on the low end. Again this footage is from 2009 so you he could certainly be an even better runner two years later. He certainly reminds me of current Wyoming running back Kody Sutton due to his size but runs like the larger Ghaali Muhammad. Holman is not currently rated by any recruiting service. Coach Wilson said he was offered by North Texas earlier.

There is also some other recruiting news after the jump.

Star-divide

Locals are excited that Sheridian RB Jordan Roberts will be taking an official visit to Wyoming the last weekend of January. He does not currently have an offer from Wyoming but the fact that he has an official visit set is certainly a good start. Right now FCS level South Dakota and Northern Colorado are the two schools that have offered.

With all this interest in running backs lately it makes me wonder if something changed with the commitment of RB Evan Williams out of Iowa Western. He was supposed to enroll in the spring semester which means he would have signed in December.

In the Iowa Western listing of mid year signees Williams is not listed in that group. He oroginally committed to Wyoming in 2010 but wasn't eligibile academically and thus ended up at Iowa Western. There have also been rumblings of Ghaali Muhammad making the move back to defense and perhaps even Nehemie Kankalongo moving as well. Any positions changes likely wouldn't be announced till later.

running backs

Holman is a mean runner lacks top end speed but takes hits and has great vision. Roberts is a better back in my opinion faster and has a upside as a safety as well. The defense could use Muhammad and Kankalongo both good athletes and have good speed.

Running backs

Having watched Jordan Roberts for most of this year, I believe that he compares very favorably with the young man from Oklahoma. Jordan is very strong and agile. While not possessing blinding speed, he is football fast – having had many breakaway touchdown runs against some pretty fast teams. His footwork and balance are incredible for such a young running back. Not only that, he has a great attitude and is a great kid. He can only get better. He is a Wyoming kid who can play with anyone. Wyoming should offer him immediately.
