Glad to see another linebacker in this class.

Although it does concern me that we are so thin at safety in this class

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 10:35 AM MST reply actions

Was really hoping they'd land a safety in the class.

Idaho grabbed the Safety from WA that Wyoming was after.

Still no word on Parker Mays

the WR from Seattle. Hope that he signs.

So is wyoming trying to get a full recruiting class?

I had heard from other sources that we were not trying to get a full class but with the urgency we have to try to get new players it seems like maybe we are? How many recruits are we sitting at currently?

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 10:50 AM MST reply actions

I've heard it should be 23 players total.

We certainly could have lost someone. Perhaps McKinney is going to grayshirt. Really don’t know much about him till that posting on the news site.

Do we have anyone at the coaches office

Seems like it would be great to have someone over at the office to get info when the faxes come across.

The school doesn't tweet or post anything until 3pm.

Wish they did. New Mexico and Idaho make an announcement for each player.

We had four players switch commitments this year.

Seems like more then usual. At least we didn’t lose anyone to CSU.

Who are some of your favorite members of the recruiting class?

Lets start with the defense first…

We need to know who is signed…LOL

Ha.

Use the list on my previous post. If you pick someone who ends up going elsewhere it won’t be counted against you. :)

I would say my favorite verbal commitment would have to be Uso Olive

We have needed a beast like him on the defensive line for a while and I’m glad to see him here as a verbal.

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 11:17 AM MST reply actions

my picks are

I would have to say all the DT/DE.
Awrabi,Bernthaler,Olive. great to see some DT sign. Wr Sewell needed to a replacement for Doctson

by Beachpoke on Feb 1, 2012 11:20 AM MST up reply actions

Awrabi is going to be good.

Has a great motor.

Nice pick.

He is the first true nose tackle the Pokes have had since Fred Givens. They’ll probably stick with the 4-3 but he is already bigger then our current d-linemen.

Evan W.

I guess Evan did not make it ? was it his grades…

by Beachpoke on Feb 1, 2012 11:22 AM MST reply actions

It may have been another grades issue.

Or he had his offer pulled. Didn’t do much this last year at Iowa Western. I was a big fan of Williams when he signed in 2010 originally.

Appleby

Chase has good size as well. I think both these guys will jump in th emix right off.

by Beachpoke on Feb 1, 2012 11:23 AM MST reply actions

We have tons of senior defensive tackles this year.

They may not be needed to play right away due to the depth. Kind like Eddie Yarbrough redshirted because we had Biezuns and Knapton. Christensen will give them a shot if they earn it. That is what I like about him. Will play the best players that will help the team.

I think depth at D Line is what killed our defense last year

I hope they all see some time on the d-line this year. We need to keep those guys fresh

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 11:37 AM MST reply actions

That is a good point.

There wasn’t much rotation at defensive tackle.

Glad that I don't cover recruiting for a bigger school.

Lots of shady things afoot with recruiting in the SEC.

I live in SEC

I live in the SEC/ACC country and it is amazing what happens around here..
Sad in some places as well.

by Beachpoke on Feb 1, 2012 11:40 AM MST reply actions

Exactly.

I’m always excited for any player that commits to Wyoming. If they change their mind I don’t wish them any ill will. Crazy what some fans and coaches do/say to players that change their mind.

Heard anything about Ross Stribling?

I know he was one of the first recievers to get a commitment and I only see one school offered him and that was Wyoming. Was it his grades or do we know anything about it?

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 11:53 AM MST reply actions

No word yet. He was going to visit SDSU..

But didn’t have an offer from the Aztecs. He’s from the same high school as Herron. Thought that would seal the deal as well. He has great size at 6-4.

Tommy Thornton got two stars from ESPN.

He reminds me of Brett Smith. A talented player that other schools are overlooking.

Any thoughts on the offensive commits?

Any hidden gems?

I love all of our recievers

I think Sewell could be something special having three years with Brett. I also like Nico Brown and am curious to see what kind of a prospect the German Kid is. If he is the same kind of athlete his brother is, he could be special.

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 12:13 PM MST reply actions

All our other German recruits have played defense.

Interesting to see how he does at this level. The juco linemen have some very nice size.

Here is more on CB recruit Dylan Muscat.

He thinks that War Memorial is slightly larger then it it’s listed capacity. He may also take a few days to decide on a school.

“When I think about Wyoming, I think about the 100,000 fans that fill their stadium,” he said. “It sets you up for a chance at the NFL.”

he may be thinking of nebraskas War Memorial Stadium?

One way or another he can just check with the players from wyoming who are in the NFL to see that it is defined possible.

He signed with Eastern Washington.

His brother plays there as well. Really wish the Cowboys had landed him.

No Colorado players

Weird not to see any Colorado players on that list.

by nopeg on Feb 1, 2012 4:11 PM MST reply actions

Technically Thornton was a player from colorado

From what I heard, his family moved to Arizona just lately but he played football in Colorado.

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 4:23 PM MST up reply actions

Wyo had a 6’5 DE from Arvada, CO in their sights for a bit.

by notacowboy on Feb 1, 2012 8:26 PM MST up reply actions

so just so I'm understanding

In the program at the University press confrernce listed Austin tixier as a member of the class. Is he grey Shirting or is he signing with this class? If he is grey shirting can the University get in trouble for recruiting violations if he is listed in their program on signing day?

by cowboy fan chaz on Feb 1, 2012 4:27 PM MST reply actions

Believe he is still grayshirting.

He signs LOI but just doesn’t enroll right away.

Other news out of the press conference.

Wyoming expects to sign a full class (25) this year. Patrick Mertens is 100% and back at 290lbs. Bad news is at Sam Stratton injured his knee and just surgery. He is likely done for the year. That certainly hurts us at WR.

New Cowboys fan

Hey guys I follow highschool football down in Arizona and I just wanted to say, I think you guys got a steal in Tommy Thornton. He got voted to his All Region team despite being in the same region as Connor Brewer who is commited to Texas as one of the Top ten prostyle qbs. Ive seen the two play mulitple times and IMO thornton is just as good if not better so congrats.
Also he is listed as a Pro-Style but he is defintley a dual-threat if you check out any his highlight videos on youtube.
Here is a video from signing day interview with Thornton- (his coach has some great things to say about him at about the 53min mark then Tommys interview follows) :
http://aia365.com/videos/740
Needless to say the Cowboys gained a new fan today congrats and GO POKES!

by tj77 on Feb 1, 2012 5:46 PM MST reply actions

Thanks for info on Thornton.

I watched his highlights and certainly agree that he is a dual threat. This staff is great at finding hidden gems. Glad to have another Poke fan in AZ. Cowboys had another commit from AZ named Richard Winston but he flipped to New Mexico.
