It would be hard to imagine a better overall performance for the Wyoming Cowboys (20-9, 6-7). The Pokes started off strong and led by double digits most of the way en-route to a 71-59 victory over TCU (17-12,7-6). Wyoming picked up their 20th victory of the year and only had a single turnover the entire game. This 20th win equals the number of wins the Cowboys had in 2009 and 2010 combined. The only downside was that weather conditions forced I-80 to close and made attendance much smaller then the 5174 reported. Coach Shyatt started all five healthy seniors and the group went on to score the teams first 15 points. Rob Watsabaugh scored the Pokes first two points in his first career start.
Leonard Washington came off the bench and put together his second straight double double. Washington shot 9 of 13 from the field for 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Francisco Cruz had the hot shooting hand, he went 8 of 11 from the field for 15 points and five assists. Adam Waddell finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Larry Nance Jr. had another strong performance off the bench, he finished with eight points and five rebounds. JayDee Luster had fantastic game with eight assists and no turnovers.
The Cowboys are now winners of two straight and will face UNLV in Vegas on Saturday night. That is the final regular season game before the conference tourney starts. The conference race is so tight right now that there are literally 200+ plus tie breaking scenarios that the Mountain West will use to determine the seeding. So we won't even try and write 10,000 words on who the Cowboys will likely face. We'll know for sure on Saturday after the game. In the meantime let's hand out some awards shall we.
Cowboy Joe: The seniors: Afam Muojeke, Arthur Bouedo, Adam Waddell, Francisco Cruz, JayDee Luster and Rob Watsabuagh. They've been through plenty during their careers in Laramie. Great to see them earn a huge win on their night. Thanks for all the memories fellas!
Cowboy Low: Luke Martinez struggled from the field shooting just 1 of 8. He finished with just three points and three rebounds in 26 minutes.
Cowboy Foe: J.R. Cadot had 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Horned Frogs in both categories.
