Wyoming To Host North Dakota State In CBI

The Wyoming Cowboys were hoping for a spot in the NIT after bowing out of the Mountain West tournament in the first round. Things didn't work out that way for the Pokes who ended up in the "pay for play" College Basketball Invitational. The Cowboys will host the North Dakota State Bison (17-13) on Wednesday, March 14th at 7pm in the AA. Another chance to play in front a home crowd is great for this group of seniors. Unfortunately the University is on spring break and the student section will be sparse.

Here is the entire bracket for the 2012 CBI. If Wyoming wins they will face the winner of Washington State vs San Francisco. HDNET owns the television broadcast rights to the CBI and they will only be showing half of the first round games. The WSU/SF game will be shown instead of the Cowboys. So if you want to see this game you'd better get your butt to Laramie. Tickets are $16 for adults, $8 for kids and $5 for students.

Obviously not making the NIT is a disappointment as the Pokes certainly deserved a shot at bigger postseason tournament. Instead they are paying $35,000 to host North Dakota State. The prices jumps to $50,000 in the second round and $75,000 in the semi's. To break even Wyoming would need to sell 2,187.5 adult tickets at $16 a pop.

We'll do a bigger preview on Tuesday for the game. Right now I'd say Wyoming should be a solid favorite over the Bison. They've lost their last three games and haven't played since March 4th. North Dakota State is a very young team with only two seniors and juniors on the roster. None of the upperclassmen are starters.
