The wait is nearly over. Clean out the RV and dust off the grill. Are you ready for some tailgating?
Football season is just around the corner.
The Cowboys will have their first fall practice at 3:45pm on Monday, August 6th. That will be the first of 25 practices for Wyoming to help them prepare for the season opener against Texas.
There will be three scrimmage dates:
- Saturday, Aug. 11 - 3:45 p.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 18 - 10 a.m.
- Wednesday, Aug. 22 - 8:45 a.m.
The three scrimamges are all open to the public. For practices only the first hour is open to the media or the public. So you if are you are a fan of watching players stretch, then you are in luck!
Wyoming returns 13 starters and 41 lettermen from a team that went 8-5 in 2011. Right now the team is very healthy and nearly everyone is ready to go. The only player out is wildcat QB/WR Sam Stratton who is done for the year after having surgery.
The first two practices will be helmets only. On Wednesday and Thursday it will be helmets and shoulder pads. On Friday, August 10thwill be the first practice with full pads.
There is plenty of optimism around the football program right now and rightly so. Dynamicsophomore QB Brett Smith is back after a recording setting year. Heteams up with plenty of playmakers at the running back and wide receiver positions.
On defense Wyoming has revamped their coaching staff and has given the Pokes a much more aggresive look. Chris Tormey is the new defensive coordinator and hadthe defense playing like a totally different team this spring. There is also plenty of depthon the defensive side. With Oliver Schober healthy and Ghaali Muhammad coming back makes the linebacker unit the deepest on the team.
Anyone certain players you are excited to see hit the field? Any position battles you will be watching closely? Post your thoughts in the comments.
