Having actual games played can certainly help when filling out a Top 25 ballot. With some of the cream puff games in week one you don't always learn a lot. What did I learn from Oklahoma State dominating Savannah State 88-0? That Savannah State is awful.
The premier game last weekend was Alabama and Michigan, that game turned in a laugher as Michigan melted down. I gave the Crimson Tide the spot over USC since they faced the much tougher opponent. I thought Texas was pretty impressive on both sides of the ball and moved them up to #8. Nebraska and Ohio State also moved up. Oklahoma dropped to #12 after struggling in El Paso. Stanford fell off the board after barely getting past San Jose State.
This is our ballot from last week.
Boise State fell to Sparty on the road, I still kept the Broncos in the poll at #21. They were not the not non-AQ team, that honor goes to the Ohio Bobcats. This may be a tough year for the smaller conferences to get teams into the top 25. Plenty of time for things to develop but right now it seems like the pool of really strong teams is much thinner this year. With conference realignment gobbling up all the top schools it is an uphill battle.
Here is our ballot. Let us know if you agree or disagree with any of my choices. This is being posted before the Virginia Tech / Georgia Tech game. If something crazy happens in that game on Monday then I will try and adjust my ballot.
