Wyoming Football Conference Pairings Announced For 2013-16

MARCO GARCIA-US PRESSWIRE

Now you can complain about future schedules for four years in advance.

With the Mountain West expanding to 12 teams in 2013 it required a new scheduling arrangement to be worked out since the two divisions were announced. Let's do a quick refresher on the two divisions that will effect this fall. The winner of each division will meet the Mountain West Championship game that will be held at the home of the higher ranked school.

MOUNTAIN

  • Wyoming
  • Colorado State
  • Air Force
  • Boise State
  • Utah State
  • New Mexico State

WEST

  • Nevada
  • UNLV
  • Fresno State
  • San Diego State
  • San Jose State
  • Hawai'i

Wyoming plays every member of it's own division every year. Then it will play the same three members from the WEST division in back to back years. The following two years Wyoming will play the three other members of the WEST division that is missed before. This way the Pokes are guaranteed at least one home and away game with every school in the Mountain West. That is based on the assumption that the conference doesn't add or lose any schools over the next four years. So ya.... these later schedules are virtually useless. Still they are at least fun to look at.

Here is the breakdown of what the next four years will look like for the Cowboys. Dates for conference games will be announced in a few weeks.

2013

  • NC: @ Nebraska, IDAHO, NORTHERN COLORADO, @ Texas State
  • HOME MW: COLORADO STATE, FRESNO STATE, Hawai'i, NEW MEXICO
  • ROAD MW: @ Air Force, @ Boise State, @ San Jose State, @ Utah State

2014

  • NC: MONTANA, @ Oregon, @ Michigan State, FLORIDA ATLANTIC
  • HOME MW: AIR FORCE, BOISE STATE, SAN JOSE STATE, UTAH STATE
  • ROAD MW: @ Colorado State, @ Fresno State, @ Hawai'i, @ New Mexico

Let's take take a look at the first two years since they feature the same nine teams. There are two items that stick out to me. The biggest news items is that the Border War will be held in Laramie for the second straight year. This will help add some spark to rivalry and likely be the biggest home game in 2013. The other exciting news is the renewed rivalry with Hawai'i. Will the Paniolo Trophy also make a return? Wyoming fans now have a nice 18 month notice on the game being played in Honolulu. Time to start stuffing the piggy bank. It will be very tough to get a win on the road in 2013.

2015

  • NC: NORTH DAKOTA, @ Washington State, EASTERN MICHIGAN, @ Northern Illinois
  • HOME MW: COLORADO STATE, NEVADA, NEW MEXICO, UNLV
  • ROAD MW: @ Air Force, @ Boise State, @ San Diego State, @ Utah State

2016

  • NC: NORTHERN ILLINOIS, @ Nebraska, @ Eastern Michigan
  • HOME MW: AIR FORCE, BOISE STATE, SAN DIEGO STATE, UTAH STATE
  • ROAD MW: @ Colorado State, @ Nevada, @ New Mexico, @ UNLV

If you are looking for gambling and other debauchery then you'll love 2016 which features trips to Reno and Las Vegas. Waiting four years for a trip to Vegas does take to some getting used to. At least we will still have the basketball tournament to let Cowboy fans go wild.

The conference put together a very handy spreadsheet together that shows every schools conference schedule in these next four years. Check it out here.
