Will Wyoming Make The NIT?

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys wait to find out their postseason fate.

Most of the predictions and news right now centers around the NCAA Tournament. And for good reason since the field of 68 needs to be determined before the other tournaments will have a chance to choose their teams. Right now it is a waiting game for Wyoming as they find out where they will be playing next.

Last year the Cowboys played in the CBI and lost in the second round to Washington State. The CBI is a pay to play tournament that doesn't carry much prestige with it. Listening to Larry Shyatt he certainly expects the Pokes to make the NIT based on their RPI of 67 and would be disappointed if that didn't happen.

We've done our best to see what NIT predictions are looking for the Pokes. There aren't that many reliable sources for NIT projections. There isn't much confidence in Wyoming at this point. Only one site has Wyoming solidly in the NIT.

StatSheet - Has Wyoming listed as #5 seed and actually ahead of Air Force who is a #6 seed. I like Statsheet becuase it does postseason projections for months and has had the Pokes set in the NIT for a long time.

DRatings - Doesn't have Wyoming listed in the NIT field.

BankRollSports - Only Air Force is listed. They don't have Wyoming on the bubble.

Big Apple Buckets - Wyoming is not listed. Air Force is a four seed.

So right now these projections aren't in the Pokes favor but keep your heads up. The Cowboys RPI at 67 is solid and they have quality wins over Colorado and San Diego State. Their only bad loss is Fresno State who has an RPI of #118 and has a top 10 strength of schedule.

The NIT selection show is broadcast on ESPNU at 7:00PM MST.
