Week 2 Prep: A Look At Idaho's 40-6 Loss to North Texas

Chris Graythen

Time to do some homework on the Vandals.

On Saturday the Pokes will host their first home game of 2013.  It will be a familiar opponent as Wyoming traveled to Moscow last year.  It took a 40-37 OT victory for Wyoming to finally put this one away.  I was in attendance at that game and here is some footage I took.  And yes I know I'm missing the game winning touchdown catch by Jalen Claiborne.  I got superstitious and decided I couldn't film overtime.  At least that worked out in the Cowboys favor.

A lot has changed for Idaho since that game.  They have a fresh, new young coach in Paul Petrino.  They have also joined the ranks of college football nomads and have gone independent due to the demise of the WAC as a football conference.

The Petrino era didn't get off to a great start as the North Texas Mean Green rolled to a 40-6 victory last week.  The good news was that Idaho scored first.  It was all downhill from there with a missed extra point and then the defense gave up 40 unanswered points.

Here is a quick look at some of the numbers from that game.

15 - First downs for Idaho

4 - Idaho Turnovers

0 - # of kicks made.  The Vandals went 0-1 in field goal and extra point attempts.

230 - The # of passing yards for Chad Chall\ich.  He completed 70.4 of his passes.

591 - The number of yards the Idaho defense allowed in week one.

11 - The number of penalties for Idaho.  It cost them 95 yards.

Well that's it for now.  We'll have some more segments to help report later this week.

Here are some highlights of the Mean Green victory in week one.
