Wyoming's 2014 Football Recruiting Class Nearing End

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys look to be down to their very last scholarships.

The Wyoming coaching staff is nearing the end of their 2014 football recruiting class.  National Signing Day is this Wednesday, the 5th.  The Cowboys picked up their 20th,  21st and now 22nd commitments the last few days, as Orlando (Jones) Florida corner back Cornelius "C.J." Jennings Jr., Tampa (Robinson) Florida corner back Robert Priester, and Tampa (Jefferson) Florida corner back Chavez Pownell have verbally committed to Wyoming.

Jennings and Priester both visited Laramie this weekend along with two others recruits in wide receiver Ronald Nash out of Sioux City (East) Iowa and Gilbert (William Field) Arizona outside linebacker Elijah Jeffcoat.  Jeffcoat has since committed to Colorado State University-Pueblo.  Nash is down between offers from Wyoming, Northern Iowa and a preferred walk-on offer from Minnesota.  Pownell visited the weekend before.

Also other prospects to keep a eye on still are athlete Jay MacIntyre out of Louisville (Monarch) Colorado who will pick between Wyoming and Colorado and corner back Lee Crosby out of Ephraim (Snow College) Utah who is selecting amongst Wyoming, New Mexico, Toledo and Troy.

Here is a closer look to the three new verbals for the Cowboys.

The first verbal of the weekend was corner back/safety Cornelius "CJ" Jennings.  The 5'11", 180-pounder out of Orlando (Jones) Florida picked Wyoming over offers from Georgia Tech, Tulane, Charlotte, Illinois State, North Dakota State, etc.  Jennings was a prospect that had a long relationship with the current Wyoming staff and in the end it paid off.  He was being recruited by both defensive end/special teams coach AJ Cooper and corner back coach John Richardson.  Jennings has the ability to see the field very early in Laramie at either the corner back position or at one of the safety positions.  Hudl Highlights

The second verbal of the weekend inched the Cowboys ever so closer to the end of this recruiting class.  Corner back Robert Priester followed Jennings later that day with his own commitment.  Priester is a 5'9", 165-pounds speedster out of Tampa (Robinson) Florida who picked the Cowboys over Mountain West Conference mate Utah State.  Other offers were Youngstown State, North Dakota State, and Ball State.  Priester had visited the Aggies on the weekend of the 24th.  Much like Jennings, Priester will likely be given the chance to work at multiple positions of need on the defensive side of the ball.  He was also recruited by AJ Cooper.  Hudl Highlights

We have now seen a third verbal within the last few days.  Corner back Chavez Pownell has picked the Cowboys over Illinois State and North Carolina A&T among others.  The 5'11", 195-pounder out of Tampa (Jefferson) Florida visited Wyoming on the weekend of the 24th of January.  Pownell gives the Cowboys a bigger corner that could also end up at safety in time.  Much like the other two verbals, Pownell is a AJ Cooper recruit.  Hudl Highlights
