Q&A with Wyoming AD Tom Burman

+

This is the first in a four part series that Robert Gagliardi is writing up after an interview with AD Tom Burman. Nothing groundbreaking with the information here but it is still nice to hear what Burman is thinking. He and Coach Christensen sat down with Austyn Carta-Samuels after the Border War and felt good about things. He won't go into very much detail about basketball and says they won't publicly comment on Coach Schroyer during the season.

The Mountain West may add San Jose State?

+

This comes to us from our friends over at MWC Connection. San Jose State may be a target for expansion for the MWC if they were to go to 12 teams to create two divisions and a championship game. The appeal of San Jose State is their market the Bay Area which is the 6th largest in country. Comcast which owns the Mtn. has a huge market share in the Bay Area and would love to add those eyeballs to a channel they own. That is the only reason to add San Jose State. The question is would anyone actually watch? The Spartans are that the bottom of the barrel behind Cal and Stanford and both those teams are behind all the pro teams in the area. 49ers, Raiders, Giants, A's, Sharks and Warriors. Perhaps people would tune in just to watch other MWC teams like Boise State and Air Force? If this proves to be proves to be true then Comcast really has their way with the Mountain West leadership. One bonus is that if San Jose State and Utah State are added they are both teams that Wyoming could beat in football. The Spartans are awful and finished 1-11 last year. The Pokes have a four game series with Utah State scheduled anyways. Recruiting wise Wyoming has had much more success in Texas than California the last few years and I would hate to lose that recruiting ground. With San Diego State and Fresno State the MWC already has a solid footprint. UTEP would be a great fit geographically and has better programs than San Jose State.
