Border War
Cowboys Crush The Rams 70-51
Can victories get any sweeter than this one? Beating down your arch rival in front a raucous crowd certainly feels good. Wyoming (16-3, 2-1) started off strong and their pressure defense gave Colorado State (13-5, 2-1) fits all game long. Leonard Washington had the best game of his collegiate career with an incredible 32 point 14 rebound effort. The big man could do wrong in this one. He was menace inside on both sides of the court. He also hit three three pointers: including a bank shot with the shot clock expiring. That pretty much summed his night rightthere.
The AA was rocking once again with a crowd of 7,901 in attendance. That's nearly a 1,000 more then showed up last week. Hopefully this momentum continues and the stands will be packed with more then 10,000 by the end of the season.
I think Tim Miles summed things up perfectly with this postgame statment:
"It was Wyoming's day. They kicked our butts." - Tim Miles

Border War: Wyoming Hosts The Sheep On Saturday
It's time for the sheep to once again make the drive north to Laramie to face the 15-3 Cowboys. Thankfully this game will be much more meaningful and competitive then previous editions. Colorado State has swept the series the last two years while aiming for post season berths. Meanwhile Wyoming was fighting to just reach double digit wins. Attendance was nearly 7k last week against New Mexico, it should exceed that number with the Rams in town. Any attendance predictions? I'll go ahead and say 8,200.
Tim Miles keeps trying to get the Rams (13-4) into the NCAA tournament and put together a very tough non conference schedule to boost their resume. Their four losses have come to Duke, Stanford, Northern Iowa and Southern Miss. Thus the Rams enter with an impressive RPI of 21 and strength of schedule of 19. They have struggled on the road however and sit at 2-3 on the year. As far common opponents go both teams beat CU and Northern Colorado. CSU did beat Denver at home 79-75 while Wyoming lost to Denver on the road 57-46.
Awards and Highlights From The Border War
Cowboy Joe: WR Josh Doctsonstepped up bigtime with three catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns. The first one was a 80 yarder where Bretty Smith hit Doctson in-stride. It was the best deep ball I've seen Smith throw this year. Later Doctson caught the game winner and his size and speed helped him separate from his defender.
Cowboy Low: The third quarter. The defense and offense struggled big time during the third quarter. Wyoming allowed 14 points and also had a turnover on an interception. The fans were out of it and things weren't looking very good. Luckily there was still a quarter to play.
Cowboy Foe: Raymond Carter made the most of his final game as a Ram. The senior rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Garrett Grayson gave the Pokes fits with his mobility but he also had three interceptions.
Wyoming Makes It Three In A Row Over Colorado State
-
Another Border War classic is in the books and for the third straight year the Bronze Boot is staying in Laramie. All the freshmen for the Cowboys learned that is an intense rivalry and anything can happen. The game time temperature was chilly but tempers were running hot. This game featured 17 total penalties including a large number of personal fouls as both sides kept the intensity up after plays were done.
With four lead switches either team had a shot at winning this one. The Rams put together a very strong third quarter to take a 19-14 lead. The Pokes kept things together and used an incredible fourth quarter effort to seal the victory. Brett Smith found Josh Doctson in the corner of the end zone for a 35 yard touchdown and gave the Pokes a one point lead. The Cowboys went for the two point conversion but failed. Later Brett Smith was picked off at the Ram five yard line the defense picked things up. Mike Purcell sacked Garrett Grayson in the end zone for a safety and now the Pokes led 22-19. Wyoming failed to run out the clock and punted with one minute remaining.

Cowboys Will Wear Wyoming State Flag Helmet Decal For 103rd Border War
The Border War will be an even more unique game this year for Wyoming fans. The Pokes will be wearing the same brown helmet, gold jersey and brown pant combo worn against Texas State which is pictured above. In that game Wyoming honored 9/11 victims and our military with a special stars and stripes helmet decal.

This time they will use a different Steamboat decal that is designed from the Wyoming State Flag. The decal was actually designed by Brad Reed who runs WyoNation and then with the help of interns in the athletic department, was able to submit the design to higher ups who loved the logo as well as Coach Christensen.

November Panel of Pokes: The Border War
We're back for another edition of Panel of Pokes and of course we're going to talk about the biggest game of the year. It's Sheep Week and Wyoming and CSU will meet for the 103rd time this Saturday. This is the latest the Border War has ever been played and first time these teams have ever met in December.
I wanted to get the thoughts of our panel on what exactly the Border War means to them.
Here was the topic this month:
What does the Border War and rivalry with Colorado State mean to you? What do you want to see from Colorado State besides not winning the Bronze Boot? It is better to have CSU succeed when not playing Wyoming or is it more enjoyable to see your rival fail?
Take a look at the responses after the jump. Feel free to post your Border War thoughts and memories in the comments.
