Here are a few great stories on the 2012 Wyoming Recruiting Class.

Wyoming attracting better athletes to it's program.

Story on Uso Olive and DJ May signing with Wyoming. Check out the guns on Olive!

Five players from the Puget Sound sign with the Cowboys.

6-6 330lb OL Garrett Angell from Lovell, WY will be a walk-on for the Cowboys.

QB Jason Thompson talks about choosing Wyoming over Washington.

The staff is still working to put the final members of the class together. So we'll probably have another two names added to this group.

Reading Roundup: Wyoming In The News

Coach Christensen says you can connect the dots when it comes to who will be the starting QB.  Just don't ask him to connect the dots for you.  I'd say the starting QB will be a freshmen and his name will start with a B and end in rett Smith.  Usually we get in trouble when we assume things.

"It's going to be hard for Brett Smith to get beat out based on the first three scrimmages. It's pretty apparent at this point. I don't think we'll need a big press conference or press release to let people know who our leading candidate at quarterback is."

Coach Shyatt went back to Florida this week for an annual coaching clinic.

"I’m hoping we have strength in numbers because right now I don’t think individually we probably have the talent level to compete with the better teams in our league," he said. "But you know, sometimes work ethic, a passion, and most of all a bunker mentality -- knowing what is important as a group -- can overcome a lot of individual talent."

Reading Roundup: Crazy Day In The Mountain West

BOISE ID - SEPTEMBER 25: I can't see you.....

Well the first day of the Mountain West Media Day is all wrapped up and things got crazier as the day went on.  What started as a peaceful day turned into internet hysteria.  Never a dull moment here with the Mountain West I guess.

The first big shock came out in the afternoon when it turns out Boise State is not allowed to wear their all blue uniforms for home conference games

The prohibition applies only to Boise State and was part of the school’s agreement to join the league.

"I thought it was ridiculous," Petersen said of his reaction. "… That’s our colors. That’s who we are. That’s who our fans have wanted us to be since I’ve been at Boise State. That’s what it’s been through and through."

Said commissioner Craig Thompson: "What we had heard from our coaches is ‘a competitive advantage.’ It’s as simple as that."

This created countless grumblings from Boise fans which can you fully enjoy.  The Broncos can still wear all blues for their non-conference games.  With the bazillion different Pro Combat uniforms that Nike busts out every year for Boise they should have no problem finding the right uniform to wear on a Saturday.

They're back......................

Chooooo Choooo!!!!  The rumor that will never die is back yet again.  Apparently after denying Utah State entry into the Mountain West a dozen times the Aggies are still trying.  Or at least their rumor spreaders have infiltrated Texas to spread the good news.

Bobcat Report a Texas State site that broke the news on the WAC adding UT-Arlington says: they have learned that Utah State will be joining the Mountain West in the next 15 days.  The supposed reasoning is that Boise wants a travel partner and having an eleven team conference is some how a good thing.

Craig Thompson denied the report on Tuesday which he would have done no matter what.  Apparently the announcement wouldn't be made till after the WAC media days which happen July 27th and 28th.  Please say it ain't so......

Reading Roundup: News Worth Reading

Time to get caught up on news and tidbits coming out of Wyoming.  Lots happening right now so check out all these links.

  • If haven't heard of Mark Nzeocha yet then should get very familiar now.  The 21 year old freshman from Germany enrolled for spring quarter and is part of the 2011 recruiting class.  He started of spring drills as the the third string safety and has now progressed as the starting OLB opposite Brian Hendricks.
  • Check out this video interview with Nzeocha that was done in October.  You just need to know to German in order to understand.  My year of intensive German is failing me but I did pick up on: Wyoming, International Business, 1AA and Colorado State sucks.  I might have added that last one in myself.
  • Kyle Magnuson is 6-6 320lbs and will see time at guard and tackle this year.  The big fella has really bought into the program and his hard work is paying off with more playing time.
  • Wyoming diver Kyle Murdock earned Honorable Mention All-American with his 12th place finish on the platform.
  • Brand Miller earned himself a scholarship and more reps at running back through hard work.  He is currently listed as the #2 RB on the spring depth chart.

Reading Roundup: Wyoming in the News

Here are some articles you should be checking out today as you wait for the Pokes and Horned Frogs to tip off in Vegas.

  • Ghaali Muhammad was recruited to UW as "athlete" back in 2009 and he is exactly that.  He is now moving to his third position in three years.
  • Desmar Jackson and Amath M'Baye named honorable mention in MWC awards. Snubbed?
  • Wyoming is no stranger to the pigtail game of the MWC tournament.
  • Five Wyoming Wrestlers earned automatic berths to NCAA Championship
  • Cowgirl Soccer has a new assistant coach.
  • Wyoming is one of nine schools that has offered RB KeiVarae Russell out of Everett, WA.  That is DC's hometown and he has done a good job of recruiting the PNW.
  • Is the MWC treatment of TCU in their final year bush league?
  • NON SPORTS: The cooler weather in Wyoming could help bring in more high tech jobs to the Cowboy State.

Reading Roundup: What you should be reading right now

Before the weekend starts you should do some reading.  Your weekend will probably be filled with beer and fried food while watching football so get some knowledge know before you watch TV all weekend.  Here are some stories you should check out.

  • Two more Wyoming Cowboy non conference basketball games will be broadcast this this year on CBS College Sports.  The two games for the Cancun Challenge on November 23rd versus Missouri and 24th against LaSalle/Providence.  Very good news for folks that don't have access to the Mtn. to view some games.
  • Check out the College Buffet for all the televised games this weekend.  The matchup of 2-5 Wyoming and BYU did not get a high ranking.
  • Brian Gibson went from truck driver in Louisiana to power forward for the Cowboys.  Gibson was the leading rebounder in the JUCO ranks last year.
  • CB Marqueston Huff feels like he is the third Gipson brother and looks to make a huge impact next season.
  • Are the BYU Cougars struggling this year simply because of a lack of talent on the roster?
  • Afam Muojeke is healthy and practicing but he is still not 100% so he could miss the season opener.
  • Expect BYU to run the ball as much as possible against the Cowboys on Saturday and the rest of the season.  Passing game is simple not there for the Cougars.
  • Utah State is still standing by their decision to stick with the WAC and not join the Mountain West.

Reading Roundup: What you should be reading right now

Happy football eve!  The day before #11 Utah visits Laramie to face the Cowboys.  Here are few interesting stories you should be checking out while you countdown the hours till the weekend finally arrives.

  • James Reese a member of the Wyoming Basketball National Championship team in 1943 passed away on Tuesday.  That leaves Kenny Sailors as the lone surviving member of that team.
  • The College Football Buffet is out.  All the games are ranked in order to help you decide what to watch.
  • Robert Herron had his best game of his career last week against TCU.  However the WR/RB will be on the shelf for at least one week with an undisclosed injury.
  • The dispute between Nevada/Fresno State and the WAC appears to be headed to mediation which is required by Colorado Law.  A mediator helped Nebraska work out a better deal in leaving the Big 12 so the same could happen with Nevada and Fresno State.
  • The punting game has been a bright spot for the Cowboys this year and Austin McCoy is among the best in the nation.
  • A look back at NHLPA Hockey 93'  truly one of my favorite video games. The author loves Jeremy Roenick but I thought the Vancouver Canucks were a better team then the Blackhawks.
