Another week and whole bunch of surprises in what has been very entertaining season so far in the Mountain West.  All the games this week were conference games so that meant a 4-4 record with one team having a bye week.  Let's see how each team fared over the weekend.

Air Force:  Most would say the Falcons lost this weekend but I see a team that is true member of the conference and really took one for the team.  They still have five wins and will have no trouble becoming bowl eligible.  By having San Diego State win they helped strengthen the conference as a whole and now the Aztecs have a great shot at going bowling.  Way to be a team player.

BYU:  Spy Gate, Replay Gate, whatever you want to call it.  The news out of Provo just keeps getting more and more entertaining as the year goes on.  Now sitting on five losses the Cougars are on the verge of staying home this post season.  Nothing would make Wyoming fans happier then handing BYU it's sixth loss.  A season finale loss at Utah would make it seven losses on the year.

Colorado State:  Holy breakout game there Rams.  Putting up 34 points in the first half against UNLV shows some pent up frustration.  Seems like Pete Thomas and the rest of the crew are starting to get more familiar with things as the season progresses.  A trip to Utah won't be an easy task for the lambs.

New Mexico:  For the first time this year the Lobos didn't lose.  All it took was a bye to break the endless string of losses.  Seems like Mike Locksley even kept his job during the break, this would have been a great time to bring in a new coach and give them two weeks to get the team adjusted.  Next week the rested wolves will take host the feisty Aztecs in a very late 8pm start.

San Diego State:  Third time was a charm.  After blown calls at Missouri and BYU the refs finally got it right on a two point conversion that would have tied the game for Air Force.  Ronnie Hillman has been in beast mode nearly all season and win number five should in your future with a trip to New Mexico.

TCU:  The bid for three straight shutouts failed when BYU posted a field goal up in the third quarter.  Still it was a jolly good run for the Horned Frog defense.  Nice job holding the Cougars to just 147 yards on offense.  Please don't go the Big East, pretty please!  Texas and New England do not mix well. Texas and Jersey could be a war.

UNLV:   The long awaited bye week is finally here.  Coach Hauck can use that free time to purchase more Terminator style sunglasses and practice looking tough in the mirror.  Just noticed the Rebels play 13 games this year due a December 4th trip to Hawaii.  What a nice reward for a job done poorly.

Utah:  Boise and TCU are getting all the NO AQ love at the moment which leaves little room for love of the Utes.  Perhaps because you're heading to the PAC 10 the media just doesn't really seem to care about you anymore.  The can keep bagging on other teams but since you'll be in an AQ Conference it makes it hard to love/hate the Utes.

Future Members of the Mountain West

Boise State:  The Broncos did what needed to do in a 48-0 victory over San Jose State.  Everything else went wrong when Oregon State and Nevada both lost.  The strength of schedule demons are getting angry and will now be creating even more noise.

Fresno State:  Well a win is win after taking down New Mexico State.  Next week is San Jose State and win number five. Do you ever play with giant checkers or chess on your huge checkerboard end zone?  It isn't regulation size but it is a shame to let that beautiful paint job go to waste.

Nevada:  The good news is that you won't be going to Hawaii again anytime soon.  Unless there is a repeat Hawaii Bowl in your future.  Figured two things out this weekend: Nevada should never play in Hawaii and the Warriors are really pissed that the WolfPack and Fresno State are leaving the WAC.  Time regroup and get ready for Utah State.  A loss this weekend could really deflate your sails.
