Mountain West Conference Standings

Conf Overall
TCU Horned Frogs 5 0 9 0
Utah Utes 5 0 8 0
San Diego St. Aztecs 3 1 6 2
Air Force Falcons 3 3 5 4
BYU Cougars 2 2 3 5
Colorado St. Rams 2 3 3 6
UNLV Rebels 1 3 1 7
New Mexico Lobos 0 4 0 8
Wyoming Cowboys 0 5 2 7

Well the big news for the Mountain West is that College Game Day is traveling to Salt Lake City next week for the TCU-Utah game.  Last year Game Day was in Fort Worth for this same match up.  The winner this weekend has a great shot at going undefeated and earning a spot in a BCS game.

There are currently three MWC teams that are now bowl eligible and Air Force will join soon to make four teams.  The question is whether there will be a fifth team who will earn a bowl trip.  BYU is 3-5 and should win against UNLV, Colorado State and New Mexico before facing Utah in the Holy War.  If the Cougars beat the Rams then Colorado State (3-6) will be eliminated from bowl contention if the Aztecs don't do it sooner.  If BYU and Colorado State fail to make a bowl game then things could get ugly for the Mountain West.

Having only four bowl eligible teams out of 9 will cause the media and other conferences to put down the Mountain West for not filling their bowl quota.  Even if the MWC gets five teams eligible and one team qualifies for a BCS game then the New Mexico Bowl will not have a Mountain West team to take the spot.

Air Force:  Despite three losses in a row the Falcons are darn good team.  Two of those games were winnable and they could be easily sitting at a 7-2 record.  The fact that the Falcons had five turnovers and still nearly beat Utah is an impressive feat.  Please beat down Army this weekend and claim the Commander in Chief trophy.

BYU:  The bye week probably couldn't get here fast enough for Bronco Mendenhall and his team.  If UNLV pulls an upset this week it would be an incredible thing.  If BYU doesn't make it to a bowl game is it worse for the Mountain West as a conference or for BYU as a school?

Colorado State:  Lobo smack down this past weekend and now three wins on the season with two conference wins.  Last year the Rammies went winless in Mountain West play.  Very interesting to see how CSU fares in their trip to San Diego this weekend.  Congrats on the 328 yards rushing against New Mexico, Tony Drake is finally getting some work.

New Mexico:  November is here and that means basketball season is about to start for the Lobos.  How long after the season ends does it take for Locksley to get fired?  The Cowboys are pissed that they aren't going to a bowl game this year and will be taking their aggression out on you.  Thanks for being the leagues punch bag.

San Diego State:  Well your date with the San Diego Poinsettia Bowl awaits you after securing that vital sixth win.  How many Aztec fans will actually be in the stands for the bowl game?  They never show up for home games and they probably forgot what it feels like to be in a bowl game.  Winnable game against Colorado State and then facing TCU and Utah in back to back weeks.  Wyoming has been there and done that... it's not fun.

TCU:  This one is for all the marbles and a pack of Juicy Fruit.  Undefeated TCU and Utah square off with a MWC Championship and BCS berth on the line.  The Horned Frogs outscored their opponents 189 to 16 during the month of October including two shutouts.  They are on fire...

UNLV:  After four losses in a row is possible that the Rebels can pull off a stunner in Provo.  Get ready for terrible calls from the refs, controversial replay calls and fans still living in 1984.  Please get a win this weekend and then you can go back to mediocrity when the Pokes visit in two weeks.

Utah:  Still undefeated but not making it look easy with that close win over Air Force.  The Utes are finally getting some love in the rankings but now it all comes down to one game.  Since Utah is heading to the new PAC 12 next year I will have to throw my lot in with your opponent.

Future Members of the Mountain West

Boise State:  That Tuesday win over Louisiana Tech didn't satisfy any of the voters.  Hopefully a battle with Hawaii this week will gain some recognition.  ESPNU has picked up the broadcast for this Saturday.  Looks like you will be the only new addition next year and a member of the Mountain West 8.

Fresno State:  So what did you do with your weekend off?  Did Pat Hill dress up as Wyatt Earp for Halloween?  If you have any gummi candy or sour candy leftover let me know.  The battle of the Bulldogs awaits and a bowl berth is on the line.  We'll see you and Nevada in 2012, enjoy another lame duck year in the WAC.

Nevada:  I tried to watch the entire Nevada game on Saturday night but I fell asleep.  Don't take it personally I was up late the night before and busy all day.  This is what I remember: turn game on and Nevada is winning, fall asleep, wake up and Nevada is stomping Utah State, fall asleep, wake up and all of a sudden the Aggies are putting up 21 points in the fourth quarter to make it close.  Next up is the Vandals,  can't believe you put 70 points on them last year.  Coach Ault does not believe in letting up at all, does he?
