Wyoming hoops start season on Saturday. Their opponent thinks it's an exhibition.

Kean University a DIII school out of Union, NJ is traveling all the way to Laramie for a basketball game.  The Cowboys will be playing for a win here but Kean is just playing an exhibition game according to the school.

The Cougars, who face host University of Wyoming in an exhibition game on Saturday, November 13, officially tip-off the 2010-11 season on Monday, November 15, when they travel to Delaware Valley College for the season opener.

Perhaps because Kean is a Division 3 school that they can't officially count the game.  But the Cowboys will certainly count the game towards their win total if they are victorious.  Never seen a scenario before where one teams exhibition is another teams regular season game.  The Pokes should schedule a few more of these games in the future.

In case you don't recognize the guy in the picture then you don't watch enough bad television.  It's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino from the Jersey Shore series on MTV.  He's the guy always lifting up his shirt to show off his abs and being way to aggressive when trying to meet the ladies.  He loves to use his nickname the "The Situation" in as many conversations as possible.  His other interests include T shirt time and cooking the Sunday supper for the girls and the rest of the gorilla juice heads in the house.

Next Game

So what about the actual game?  Well Wyoming should win in similar fashion to their exhibition against Peru State last week.  The 100-55 victory showed off some nice play making from the Pokes but it was against a NAIA D2 school.  So what division is lower here,  NAIA D2 or NCAA D3?  I'll have to say the NAIA schools tend to be weaker.  Even though Division 3 schools don't offer scholarships they can still attract plenty of quality players.

I would still expect at least a 30 point victory for the Pokes on their home court.  Last year Kean went 9-16 which some how warranted them being picked to finish second in their conference this year.  The only big threat they have seems to be PF Jonathon Jones who led his team last year in points, rebounds, steals and blocks.  He averaged a double double with 14 and 12 last year.

The tallest player for the Cougars is a 6-7 freshman center.  So the Pokes will have a nice size advantage across the board.  None of the players on Kean's roster look like "The Situation" but G Ali Mix gets a thumbs up for having the sweetest hair on the team.

This game will be going on as the same time as the football game in Vegas so you pull up your game tracker while you watch some pigskin on TV.

Three things to watch for during this game:

  • Will Afam Muojeke and Adam Waddell play this week? Both are coming back from injuries and saw no action.
  • Who will start at PG?  Desmar Jackson got the start last week. Is JayDee Luster coming off the bench all season?
  • Can the Pokes keep hitting three pointers.  Last week they were 12 of 22 from long range and it would be great to keep up those numbers.
