Laramie, WY – Wyoming Cowboys junior quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels has informed head coach Dave Christensen that he is leaving the University of Wyoming and its football program effective immediately.  Carta-Samuels the 2009 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year will transfer to a junior college.

The transfer of Carta-Samuels leaves many questions about the Cowboys football program going into the 2011 season. In the last week the Cowboys football program has seen strong safety Shamiel Gary, kicker Ian Watts and tight end David Tooley leave the program. That does not include wide receiver David Leonard and cornerback Marcell Gipson who are seniors and are graduating.

After a 3-9 season in 2010 things are not looking to bright currently for the 2011 season. Currently on the Cowboys roster at quarterback are two redshirt freshmen, Emory Miller Jr. and Sam Stratton. They also have two verbal commitments at the quarterback position, Adam Pittser and Brett Smith who is already enrolled in classes at UW.

Wyoming opens their 2011 football season at home September 3, 2011 when they host FCS opponent Weber State.
