Mountain West Conference Standings

(updated 11.12.2011 at 11:01 PM PST)

Conf Overall
TCU Horned Frogs 5 0 8 2
Boise St. Broncos 3 1 8 1
Wyoming Cowboys 3 1 6 3
San Diego St. Aztecs 3 2 6 3
Colorado St. Rams 1 3 3 6
UNLV Rebels 1 3 2 7
Air Force Falcons 1 4 5 5
New Mexico Lobos 1 4 1 9

This was certainly a very costly weekend for the Mountain West.  TCU went off and beat Boise State which basically ended the shot of a MWC team making a BCS game this year.  That will mean a huge loss for bowl revenue this year for the conference.  It could also clear the way for Boise State to exit the Big East sooner since they would have a smaller exit fee.

Air Force:  Without Tim Jefferson the offense for the Falcons is not nearly as strong.  The loss of Jefferson and high winds basically forced Air Force to completely abandon the pass.  Now sitting at 5-5 this team has to be one of the bigger disappointments in the conference this year.  Still a bowl game is a possibility if they can win out.

Boise State:  So the Broncos wear all orange uniforms on their blue turf and lose a conference home game for the first time in a century.  The key to their strength has finally been uncovered here.  The large number of injuries that effected the secondary and offense had no bearing on this game.  How hard is it for a team that wins so often to not find a decent kicker?

Colorado State:  Coach Fairchild is now fully grasping at straws here to save his job.  After Pete Thomas got injured Fairchild burned the redshirt of freshmen QB Garret Grayson.  He delivered with a QB rating of 20.1, 6 of 15 passing for 26 yards and one interception.  The 232 yards rushing by Chris Nwoke helped keep this game close for the Rams.  After losing five in a row, is there any way they can save this sinking ship?

New Mexico:  Holy hell the Lobos won a game!  In front of home crowd that consisted entirely of friends and family members New Mexico finally got their one win for the year.  The Lobos may not be worst football team in the country right now.  They will now proceed on losing their final two games and finishing 1-11 for the third straight year.

San Diego State:  Abel Perez is not very good at kicking field goals but he at least made the game winning kick at the end.  The Aztecs are bowl eligibile in back to back years for the first time since the 90's.  Losing to CSU would have been an awful loss for this program.

TCU:  Is this your final parting shot at the Mountain West?  Beat Boise State and costing the conference millions.  Thanks a lot you jerks.  Casey Pachall needs to seriously cool it with the eye black.  He's not the ultimate warrior and he isn't playing football in the Sahara Desert.

UNLV:  How do you spin a loss to New Mexico?  Well you don't.  When you lose to a FCS school and New Mexico in the same year that has to trigger an automatic firing clause in Hauck's contract.   At least it appears as if the Rebels have developed another solid running back in Dionza Bradford

Wyoming:  We're #3! We're #3!  After knocking off Air Force and San Diego State in the same year the Pokes have put themselves in solid position to be a top three team in the Mountain West.  Certainly the biggest suprise in the league this year.

Future Mountain West Teams:

Fresno State:  The Bulldogs had won 17 in a row against New Mexico State but couldn't make it 18.  They replaced their defensive coordinator, is Pat Hill next?

Hawaii:Bryant Moniz is done for the year with a leg injury and so is the shot of Hawaii winning a conference title.  They need to win two of three to gain bowl eligibility.

Nevada:  The Wolfpack will face Lousiana Tech next week in what appears to be a battle for the WAC Champion.
