Wyoming And Temple Square Off In The New Mexico Bowl

The long wait is over and the Wyoming Cowboys are headed back to familiar territory. The Pokes will be making their second trip to the New Mexico Bowl in three years. That was the site of their thrilling 2OT victory over Fresno State in the first year under Coach Christensen. This time they face a tough Temple Owl squad that finished 8-4. The PAC 12 wasn't able to fill all their bowl slots this year so the committee selected the Owls who finished in fourth place in the MAC.

The game is on Saturday December, 17th and starts at noon Mountain time. It will be broadcast on ESPN and will once again be the first bowl game of the year. There was plenty of drama on where the Pokes would end up as TCU and Boise had shots at BCS game. That never materialised and Boise ended up in the Las Vegas Bowl while TCU will play in the Poinsettia Bowl.

With those bowl slots taken I honestly feel that this was the best bowl placement available for the Cowboys.

The Independece Bowl is the other Mountain West affiliated bowl but it is played in Shreveport on December 26th. It would have been exciting to play a team from the ACC but it would have been a nightmare for Wyoming fans. It would basically require missing Chistmasin order to travel to the game and the number of Wyoming fans would have been small. Withthe New Mexico Bowl being played on a Saturday and a week before Christmas travel will be much easier for Cowboy faithful. It is a fairly easy drive or a quick flight down to Albuquerque.

Temple is certainly a quality opponent and this will be a heck of a match-up. Make sure to purchase your tickets through the University so ticket sales count towards the Wyoming allotment. Cowboy Joe Club is also offering a pre game tailgate that should be fantastic.
