If Wyoming was looking to hire a coach with a background as a winner during his collegiate playing career; then it's easy to say that Allen Edwards is a slam dunk. The Kentucky alum played in three national championship games and won two. His nine year coaching career also been successful with multiple teams reaching the NCAA tournament.
While at VCU his teams reached the tournament twice and even upset Duke in the first round. It was during that time Edwards worked with Jeremy Shyatt was who the Director of Basketball Operations for the Rams. Now the two are reunited and looking to rebuild Wyoming.
His most coaching stop was at Western Kentucky which could help the Pokes land another recruit.
PG Riley Grabau from Boulder, CO visited Laramie last week and was ready to commit on the spot. He also holds an offer from Western Kentucky and will visit Bowling Green, KY this week. The move of Allen Edwards to Laramie may help seal the deal and make Grabau a Cowboy.
Wyoming got it's first commitment with F Tyrone Marshall on Monday. Signing a point guard was a priority for Shyatt and Grabau would fill that role perfectly. It would also be much easier for his family to watch him play if he goes to Wyoming as opposed to Kentucky. Beside games in Laramie the Pokes will also play several teams along the Front Range: Colorado State, Air Force, Northern Colorado, Denver and Colorado.
SG Evan Conti from New York is also expected to make his decision this week. He will visit Quinnipiac this week and then probably decide between the two schools.
