Game Prep: 2012 Border War

The time has come again for Sheep Week. Time to keep the Bronze Boot in Laramie for a fourth straight year.

This has been a season to forget for both programs. The Cowboys and Rams have a combined three wins this year. Injuries have played a huge factor for both sides. Wyoming had big aspirations for this year and those have been shelved weeks ago.

Meanwhile the Rams are beginning a new era under head coach Jim McElwain. The former Alabama offensive coordinator has gone though three quarterbacks and not seen the running game deliver much pop. With just 19 points scored it makes it hard to win many games.

Wyoming has won three straight Border Wars under Dave Christensen. Still Christensen has received plenty of criticism this year for the Pokes record and his actions. Still a four game winning streak would help earn win him some much needed support. The Cowboys have not won four straight over the Rams since 1968-1973 when they won six straight.

Wyoming leads the Bronze Boot portion of the rivalry 23-21 that started in 1968. The Rams lead the overall series 55-43-5.

Odds makers are not expecting a close game in this one. The Cowboys started off as 10 point favorites on Sunday. I think it is a nice gesture but it is hard to imagine a blowout happening here. Anything can happen in the Border War but double digits seems generous.
