Wyoming was busy hosting several recruits this weekend and several of them didn't take long to commit. Three new verbals occurred over the weekend and one took place a few days prior giving Wyoming four total for the week. The Cowboys are now standing at 14 verbal commitments for the 2013 season.
The latest additions are:
- S Xavier Lewis - EagleCrest HS (CO)
- LB Jordan Stanton - Pierce CC (CA)
- RB Omar Stover - Bolingbrook HS (IL)
- RB Josh Tapscott - Kettle Run HS (VA)
This is a very diverse group with commits coming both the east and west coast. Wyoming has also put an emphasis on junior college recruiting lately and it is nice to see that pay off.
Lewis continues the trend of Wyoming recruiting Colorado well. He is the fifth Coloradoan to commit to Wyoming so far. The 5'11 190lb safety runs a 4.5 40 and chose the Cowboys over offers from Air Force and Montana. Duke also showed him interest. Lewis is not currently rated by any recruiting service.
Stanton is the second junior college linebacker to commit to Wyoming. He hails from California where he first attended College of the Canyons in 2011 and then transferred to Piece CC in LA to help his recruiting. Out of high school Stanton had an offer Minnesota but that disappeared when their coaching staff was replaced. At 6-2 250lbs Stanton brings plenty of size. No word if he still has the amazing "FroHawk" that is shown in this video.
Next Wyoming added some depth at running back with Stover and Tapscott. Stover visited last week and ended up committing a few days later. Tapscott visited this weekend and committed fairly quickly. Each are two star running backs according to Rivals. Stover is the bigger of the two standing 5'11 195 while Tapscott is 5'8 183lbs. Each runs a 4.5 in the 40.
Stover chose Wyoming over an offer from North Dakota. Meanwhile Tapscott originally committed to Boston College and then later decided to look elsewhere. He also held an offer from Ohio. Lots of sites list Tapscott as an athlete but he is expected to play running back at Wyoming. ESPN gave him a three star rating.
Here is footage of all four athletes. Please post your thoughts in the comments below.
