Wyoming Football Picks Up Three Commitments

New, 3 comments

There had been no major recruiting news for the first half of 2012. Just offers going out to athletes all across the country.

That was until this week.

Now all of a sudden the Cowboys 2013 recruiting class has three members. Patience has paid off for Wyoming fans who were wondering when the Pokes would land their first commitment.

The first news came out on Monday that the Cowboys had landed two recruits. The first is a local product from Natrona HS in Casper. Ryan Anaya is 6-3 248 lbs OLB that can also plays at TE. Wyoming recruited him as a linebacker. He hasn't been rated by Rivals but they do list him as running 4.7 in the 40 which is great speed for someone his size. Anaya is the first Wyoming product to be offered by the University since Drew Martinez of Green River in 2010. Glad to see he didn't wait long to commit. There seems to be a number of solid football prospects in the Cowboy State this year. Perhaps there will be additional local players offered in the future.

The other commitment that occurred on Monday was another member of the German pipeline. Fabian Holler a 6-5 290lb OL from Roesrath, Germany. I have scoured the internet trying to find any picture of highlight clip of Holler but to no avail. Holler would be the sixth recruit from Germany that Christensen has brought to Laramie.

On Tuesday Wyoming got it's third commitment when WR Tanner Gentry of Grandivew HS (CO) committed. Gentry is 6-3 180lbs and runs 4.58 in the 40. He is rated two stars by Rivals and is currently the only commit that is rated. He had an offer from Air Force and was also recruited by Arizona State and CU. He has nice size and very impressive hands.

Great to see the Pokes get a Colorado prospect so early after not signing a single CO recruit in the 2012 class. Last season Gentry caught 50 passes for 693 yard and seven touchdowns. He also played safety where he had 10 interceptions. He was recruiting as a receiver by UW.

I wouldn't expect this pace of three commitments per week to keep up. However it sure is fun to finally get some commitments on board. Last year Wyoming didn't get it's first commit till July 25th.

Here are some highlights of Anaya from his junior year. Highlights of Gentry are posted below. If we find anything on Fabian Holler we will certainly post it later.
